Acne is typically thought to be an adolescent disorder; however, many people still report having acne beyond this age. Studies show more than 1 in 2 women and 40% of men in their twenties live with acne and many adults still suffer beyond this age.2 Acne is due to a combination of factors. It can be hereditary or can be triggered by changes in hormones, anxiety or stress. Wearing oily or occlusive make-up or squeezing pimples canexacerbate the condition.
What causes acne?
Acne vulgaris commonly referred to as acne, is caused by a combination of different factors. Excessive sebum secretion leaves the skin oily, the complexion dull and pores stretched and congested. When the dead skin cells in the hair follicle are not shed properly the hair follicle becomes blocked, and sebum becomes trapped under the skin, causing whiteheads and blackheads. This is known as non-inflammatory acne. The excess sebum trapped in the blocked hair follicle is the perfect feeding ground for C.Acnes (a bacteria that lives on our skin) which therefore increases in number, triggers inflammation and leads to the formation of red bumps, whiteheads, and red pimples (nodules). This is known as inflammatory acne.
PapiXTM is specifically developed for oily, blemished or acne skin with three products in the range.
- PapiXTM cleanser - A delicate cleanser with purifying action for acne-prone skin; the absence of surfactants provides thorough and non-aggressive cleansing, while also reducing excess sebum.
- PapiXTM high - A purifying gel that treats oily, blemished or acne-prone skin. Its synergistic formula contains salicylic acid, urea peroxide, zinc gluconate and taurine. It acts on blemishes, smoothing the surface of the skin. It is formulated without silicones, vegetable or mineral oils, or petroleum jelly. PapiXTM high helps to reduce sebum production and improve acne lesions within 30 days of use.
- PapiXTM long- A hydrating gel improves the appearance of acne-prone skin with the hydrating effect of saccharide isomerate and the sebo-regulating action of nicotinamide. Due to its moisturising effect, PapiX long can be used in combination with treatments that cause skin dehydration or as a maintenance treatment for acne. It does not contain silicones, vegetable oils, mineral oils or petroleum jelly, which could promote sebum
accumulation. PapiXTM long is proven to significantly reduce the amount of sebum after two weeks.
